Easter 10-Mile Long Run

Happy Easter! One of my favorite holidays, primarily because it commemorates the rising of our savior, Jesus Christ, who conquered death itself! Praise the Lord.

And what better way to celebrate Easter than with a long run? 10 miles, and while it was windy, I felt great. My ankle gave a little bit of trouble, but not so bad that I couldn't finish the run.

Unfortunately, with this being Easter weekend, there was all sorts of crap to eat, and sure enough, I blew it the whole time. I'm back up to 175, so now I get to crack down and eat properly.

There's only 4 weeks left until the Avenue of the Giants Marathon, and one week until the taper. Next weekend is my 20-mile long run.

5k Group Run

The other day I got an email from Rob, asking if I could help him with his computer. I'm all for helping him, he's certainly helped my wife and I enough over the years. I responded suggesting that I could work on it today, but I did need to run 10 miles this weekend, hint, hint. In other words, did he want to join me?

He said he was going to be running 5k this morning with his son-in-law, James, and another guy from our church named Joseph, but I was welcome to join him. I'm always for a group run! I put off the 10-miler until tomorrow so I could run 5k with the boys.

We got started at 7:30am, and it was colder than it has been, so I went with tights and a long sleeve tech shirt. James brought his german shepherd, who was a fabulous dog. James and Joseph hadn't run over 2 miles before.

We went out slow, and James was surprised we weren't trying to smoke him by going too fast. After the first mile, Rob suggested doing a fartlek, so we sprinted for about a tenth of a mile. Once that was over, while we slowed down, we never slowed down as much as before.

In the 3rd mile, I commented to everyone about the lack of slowing down. In the last tenth, we sprinted again, up to about 7 minutes per mile. It was great!

  • 07:46:28: Boss wants people to move email off the IMAP server and into local folders, he says all he wants on server is TODAY'S mail.
  • 07:47:02: Just prior to that, Boss told me that he "doesn't give a shit" about local folders, if they get deleted by us or by the user, oh well.
  • 07:48:10: I tried to tell him, if I told the user to delete a bunch of mail, that makes it my problem.
  • 07:48:26: If a user's asked by the owner, "Where is this email" and says "Greg told me to delete it", that's me. My problem.
  • 07:56:23: 10 years in August, but sometimes I wonder if I'll make it that long. I've spent 10 years thinking this about every day. Heh.
  • 07:59:08: Ready for a rant? OKAY!
  • 07:59:38: I worked 2.5 hours late last night, the owner got malware on his system. It wasn't finished last night, so my boss said...
  • 07:59:55: "I know you're here late tonight, but if you come in early tomorrow I think I can get you out of here early tomorrow night."
  • 08:00:17: I came in an hour early so that I could "get a leg up" on restoring... get this, he wanted me to restore the WINDOWS directory.
  • 08:00:34: I wasn't going to argue with him so that's what I did, came in early and started restoring the WINDOWS directory. I was in at 6:30.
  • 08:00:45: At 7:10, my boss said "it's not working" and STOPPED THE RESTORE
  • 08:00:55: Essentially, me being here an hour early made no difference whatsoever.
  • 13:49:54: Hi, there! I'm stupid. I'm so stupid that I had my All Friends column scrolled all the way down, and wondered where the new tweets were.
