CIM Training Week 3, Day 1: Cross Training

Week 3 begins! 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer, 560 calories burned. Nothing much else to say today, other than the fact that I love Pandora. I got to listen to Rush, which is nice. :)

  • 19:12:54: Back from the movie... on the way home I saw a guy who I've decided is training for an ultra. Either that or he's a glutton for punishment.
  • 19:14:53: So at 10:30 this morning as we drove over a bridge, we saw this guy crossing perpendicular, running with a weight vest
  • 19:15:15: He may have been a bodybuilder, he had a large build, I didn't take him to be a "runner". When we got close to him he was walking.
  • 19:15:38: On the way home from the movie, driving over the same bridge, at 6:30pm, we saw the same guy... same clothes... same weight vest
  • 19:16:01: So either he was splitting workouts, or he was out there run/walking with the vest for 8+ hours
  • 19:32:26: My son's tooth came out! *FINALLY*
  • 19:33:15: This is a big deal man, it's been sticking straight out for a couple weeks.

Running Vlog #11: CIM Training Week 2

CIM Training Week 2, Day 7: 9 miles

After my run today, we were driving across the 10th Street Bridge around 10:30am. When we approached Plumas Street, we saw a guy running in front of us. That alone wouldn't be too interesting, but this guy made my morning. He was of largish build, he could have been a bodybuilder but it was hard to tell, because he was wearing a 20 or 30 pound weight vest! When we crossed Plumas Street, I looked over to see him walking.

We went through the rest of our day, went to church, took my mom to lunch. Went to the movie theater in the afternoon and saw The Time Traveler's Wife, then headed home around 6:30.

On the way back across the 10th Street Bridge, I saw a guy of largish build, wearing a 20 or 30 pound weight vest, walking across the bridge. Sure enough, it was the same guy! So either he split two separate workouts, or he was out there for 7 hours with his weight vest. I wanted to stop, but he was in the middle of the bridge, so there was no way to pull over and say something.

The nearest I can figure is he was likely training for an ultramarathon. Whatever the case, I was impressed! It made my run seem small.

Speaking of my run, it turned out pretty well.

I slowed down quite a bit, which is what I was supposed to do, but ended up taking a longish break in the middle when I took a picture of some horses.

The plan there was to just take a quick picture of them & email to Twitter, but I only had phone access out there. That was a bummer, if I take that route on my long runs there'll be less sharing along the way. Meanwhile, I ended up taking a longish break fiddling with my phone. Not that I minded, of course. You know me and that lazy streak!

Taking video along the way slowed me down a tad as well, but not near as much.
