Midweek Run - 6.2 miles

This morning was cold.

On the way out the door, it was 34 degrees, and I had to scrape the ice off my windshield before I could drive to work. When I packed the gym bag, I included my new tights, shorts, synthetic/compression underwear, and a compression shirt.

By the time I was able to take lunch, it was almost 2pm! The fog had long since burned off, the sun was shining, and the temperature had risen to 48! I also hadn't brought any other running clothes, so I figured what the heck, I'll give it a go.

I can't believe how hot I was. It's good because it tells me that if I dress that way in the cold, I'll be nice and toasty, but today that meant I'd be sweating. What can you do, right? Halfway in I walked about a quarter mile because I just needed to get cool. I will say though, the tights were COMFORTABLE.

I also wore the Reebok HRM instead of the Garmin. It said I burned 675 calories vs. the Garmin's 776 calorie estimate. It's definitely a lot closer to reality, since if I was wearing the Garmin strap it wouldn't have used my heart rate in the calculations anyway.

For the benefit of those not in the know, mile splits are the times of each mile you run. Here they are.

Mile 1: 8:03.10
Mile 2: 8:17.82
Mile 3: 9:12.29
Mile 4: 13:01.65
Mile 5: 8:42.74
Mile 6: 9:06.87
.20 Mi: 1:49.39 (9:22/mi)

In the end they weren't all that bad except for where I walked. 6.2 miles, 58:13.86, 9:24/mi average, 675 calories burned.

Back to the gym tomorrow. Friday won't be a gym day as normal, because I'll be driving down to Monterey for my company's 2008 Christmas Party! I plan on a long run on the seaside on Saturday morning as well. So there.
