Didn't go to the gym today, but guess what arrived?
It's an Acer AspireOne 10.1" netbook, which I got from Amazon.com for $299. So far so good, it's going to take some getting used to. The biggest thing is that while using it on the couch (sitting on the arm of the couch), it's physically lighter, so there's not as much weight pressing down on the soft couch arm. As a result, it's less stable a surface, so I'm spending a good amount of time just getting used to typing. I'm typing this blog entry on it, and I getting more and more used to it.
Another thing is the small keyboard. I remember with my old Mitsubishi Amity, the keyboard was smaller than this one, but the placement of the keys is as such where it's taking a tad more time than I expected to get used to typing on it. Still, I'm typing pretty fast at the moment, so I think I'm there.
The processor's not the fastest, at 1.5GHz, but I wasn't expecting it to be all that fast anyway. The old laptop I was using from work was only 1GHz, so this should be faster, right? It's performing quite well.
Finally, the screen size is certainly going to take some getting used to. While it's 1024 pixels wide, it's only 600 wide. I'm finding myself more and more pressing F11 in my browser to get rid of all the system toolbars, because there's barely enough room for the webpage I might be viewing at the time!
I've installed a bit of software on it tonight. As I go, I'll need to install more, but there's no sense installing it all at once. The computer also doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, so I'll be sharing those from the desktop to install some things like Photoshop or MS Office.
As far as my ankle is concerned, it's getting much better. Bruising is focused on a few small spots, and it's not swelling near as badly. I didn't need to ice it tonight, and wore my shoe all day. Here's hoping that I'll be able to run 3 miles on Tuesday!
