For the past year, I've told people time and time again, "I love running in the rain, I ran all last winter in it. It's fun to run in the rain." Yet since last winter, I hadn't had the chance to do so.
Today was the chance. I was really looking forward to it, but other than a bit of rain on the way to work, it didn't rain. At noon, I finally had to just go out and do it. Intervals, with a 10-minute warmup, 4 x (3 min fast/3 min slow), and a 15-minute cooldown.
The Taco Bell on Bradshaw was recently torn down, and is in the process of being rebuilt. As part of this, they've ripped up the sidewalk, and the construction has sort of spilled across the street. It also happens to be part of my main running route, so I ended up runining the opposite direction than I usually go. I ended up pausing the timer before starting the first interval, so I could cross the busy street prior to actually starting.
The first three intervals and rests went without incident, with exception to some traffic I had to wait for during the 3rd one. I paused the timer here as well, otherwise it would have been a wasted three minutes of time.
Just as I started the 4th interval, the rain started, lightly at first, but progressively worse until finally it was a downpour. About a minute in, Randy from work pulled up beside me and actually asked me if I wanted a ride back to the office! I was like uh, no, I'm a little busy here! Are you sure, he asked? Yes, Randy, now go away!
Then just as quickly as it started, the rain was over. It barely sprinkled the rest of the way back.
Intervals
1: 7:51/mi
2: 8:13/mi
3: 8:18/mi
4: 8:24/mi
4.8 miles, 49:53, 10:19/mi average, 528 calories burned
On the injury front, I'm still having issues, and today for the first time, I can actually feel swelling in the spot where my right leg hurts. I have a feeling I'm going to be making another visit to the doctor soon.
